A Sad Day in Uganda
It’s a shame a whole country, in this day and time, cannot see the track record of religious involvement in HIV/AIDS treatment. Of course we can all see what religious involvement in Uganda has done (kill-the-gays).
It has been proven over and over again that safe-sex-education trumps abstinence-only-education for curbing the spread of sexually transmitted disease. No if’s, and’s or but’s, abstinence-only-education causes more death, more dollars, more suffering and more risk.
Prior to religion and Bush becoming involved in abstinence-only-education the rate of new infections in Africa had dropped drastically.
Once abstinence-only-education took over new infection rate started to rise.
Of course, the kill-the-gays folks in Uganda have been holding out on a final decision due to the all-mighty-dollar. We all knew this.
Today in the news we hear about the USA freezing HIV spending in Africa! (article)
One of the reasons being: “the US cannot continue treating an ever-increasing number of patients and that unless new infections are reduced Ugandans will always be faced with drug shortages”.
Even a PEPFAR official stated “We have all lost momentum on the prevention front and we’re paying for it now in the form of rising prevalence".
The good news is, with Obama, the abstinence-only-education is going to take a back seat.
The sad part is the question: How many died due to the application of religion rather than sound scientific data?
Every single person who participates in abstinence-only-education is complicit to murder.
Back to the topic at hand. Now that the cat’s out of the bag about the money I wonder if they will suddenly reach a decision about the kill-the-gays bill? Or is there still money in the wings? $959 million sounds like an awful lot of money but I wouldn’t be surprised if there are other programs that funnel even more funds to that area.
When preachers start suggesting/making laws you no longer have a democracy. You have become a theocracy.

Washington Times Religous Editor Exposes Ignorance (hers)
There is a recent article in the Washington Times by Julia Duin where she talks about ‘The Family’ sponsored National Prayer Breakfast and the HRC sponsored American Prayer Breakfast.
Ms. Duin seems to be suffering from the ‘ostrich syndrome’. You know, when someone buries their head in the sand, refusing to acknowledge glairing and overwhelming facts.
She seems a tad bit upset that Frank Schaeffer referred to “The Family” sponsored event as the “KKK Prayer Breakfast” (Huffington Post article).
Ms. Duin, if you are unaware of “The Family’s” involvement in the current attempt to legislate genocide in Uganda then you surely have not been paying attention. If you cannot see the correlation between killing those of African decent and killing those who are homosexual then I truly feel sorry for you.
Let me give you a hint and I believe you’ll be familiar with the phrase since it is one of the Ten Commandments “Thou Shalt Not Kill”.
Ms. Duin also makes the mistake of assuming the HRC stands alone in the condemnation. Obviously Ms. Duin doesn't watch Rachel Maddow or read the vast amount of information regarding "The Family" and the Uganda kill-the-gays legislation.

'The Family' - Christian Values Abstinence Education Doubled the AIDS Pandemic in Uganda
1. In 1986 the Family's leader, Doug Coe, sent Bob Hunter, a former Ford administration official, to East Africa where he met with Ugandan government officials while recruiting for the Family. He was representing the interests of U.S. political figures associated with the Family, including Sen. Chuck Grassley and Reagan's assistant secretary of state for Africa, Chester A. Crocker, who wanted to influence Uganda away from the left. A year later Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni met with President Ronald Reagan and has served as an American proxy ever since. Museveni has suspended term limits, intimidated the press, and installed a corrupt regime. According to Sharlet, he is the "key man" of the Family in all of Africa.
2. Museveni is also involved in another Family enterprise - Youth Corps, which mobilizes young people worldwide to develop an invisible organization to maintain the Family's culture of laissez-faire capitalism under the belief of having been "chosen" by Jesus for wealth, power and influence.
3. U.S. legislation sponsored by Family members Sen. Brownback and Rep. Joe Pitts has undone Uganda's successful anti-AIDS program by redirecting millions of dollars to abstinence only programs. This led to an evangelical revival in Uganda, the stigmatization of condoms, and a doubling of the AIDS rate.
The influence of the Family on the U.S. and its foreign relations is cause for alarm and needs to be exposed.

GayTalk Live Features Gay Uganda Blog Author on Jan 2 2010
Tom, from GayTalkRadio.org spoke with the author of GayUganda.BlogSpot.com on GayTalk Live.
Podcast available in two formats: (MP3) .. (PopUp Player)
GayTalk Live is a new segment for the new year. GayTalk Live will air on Saturdays at 3 PM ET, Noon PT (-8 GMT). GayTalk Live hopes to be an interactive event. We will have, as always, a live chat. However, GayTalk Live will also accept your phone calls.
Our first show will air a exclusive impromtu interview with the author of GayUganda.BlogSpot.com. He has tirelessly been a fountain of information regarding the kill-the-gays legislation in Uganda, at his own risk. For various reasons the impromtu interview is pre-recored. Therefore, to my knowledge, the author of GayUganda will not be avilable on the show.
GayTalk Live will be available by podcast after the broadcast. Click here to visit the showpage and access the podcasts.
Or click here and subscribe to GayTalkRadio on iTunes.

Homosexuals, Uganda, Rick Warren, Rowan Williams and finger pointing
Years ago we’d often hear “a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty”.
Most of us know that is no longer the case for the general citizenry of our world. In fact, it would seem the opposite is true “guilty until proven innocent”.
Of course, this is unless you’re a politician, religious leader, rich or know the right people; in other words, if you are influential.
I exhibit, for an example, the current issue in Uganda. You know the issue about them passing a law making homosexuality a capital crime punishable by death. It even extends to the bizarre point of jailing citizens for knowing a homosexual without reporting them to officials.
All of a sudden we have media outlets pointing fingers at the influential for remaining silent on the Uganda issue.
Of course this is a religious based issue and much of the finger pointing is aimed that direction. The finger pointing is valid.
When the Rick Warren’s, Rowan William’s and countless other influential religious figures remain silent on humanity it speaks volumes about religion. Indeed it shows a side of religion which is not compassionate or loving!
For some reason, despite historical record [proof], people seem to think religion is guiltless.
By their silence, the religious are clearly chanting Death to Homosexuals.
Stop and think for a moment about the holocaust. Don’t think for a minute there weren’t people killed for being homosexual, who were not homosexual.
In other words, once you approve of mob rule you open the door. Then a pointing of the finger becomes something much more!
