Many of us in the United States will celebrate, in joy, this day we call Thanksgiving.
Another holiday where we pretend that being an American is something to be proud of.
When many of us think of Thanksgiving we think of the iconic picture of pilgrims feasting with Indians.
That iconic picture is Massassoit (Wampanoag indian chief), his tribe and some pilgrims (one of which was William Bradford). According to the account of William Bradford there would not have been a feast if it weren’t for the 5 deer the indians brought. The pilgrims were sickly and weak. Their total number halved since arrival.
We're it not for the indians, the pilgrims would have all perished.
64 years after that feast the pilgrims would murder Massassoit’s son and display his head on a pole in Plymouth, where it remained for 25 years.
This is how America began. This is what we celebrate?
America was founded on hypocrisy.
Fleeing oppression the pilgrims came here and oppressed the American Indian. In a way which practically obliterated the American Indian.
And we are proud of this?
Count me out, I am ashamed and we all should be!
