This writing was prompted by an article about a Muslim man in New York city who beheaded his wife. They had two children and were in process of a divorce. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090216/us_nm/us_bridgestv_murder)
Dale D. (http://www.blogtalkradio.com/OpenPrideMediaNet) recently had a saying on his profile picture. It’s a saying that has been around for some time and has a few different versions which go something like this:
I’d rather be hated for what I am rather then loved for what I am not.
Or
I’d rather be hated for being honest rather than loved for living a lie.
For decades I’ve known that gays and bisexuals marry the opposite gender because it’s the right thing to do. Society and religion tell us that we are supposed to marry the opposite gender. (period)
For decades I’ve also known the damage caused by this and I’ve seen it first hand.
Call it indoctrination, socialization, brainwashing or whatever you wish. It is destructive and creates a vast amount of disparity, sadness, broken hearts and in many cases, broken children.
I come from a family for four children. Two of us were gay and the two were straight. All four of us were raised in the same household and taught the same values.
Even though our pseudo-christian society frowns on homosexuality it exist and happens. It always has and it always will.
Religion likes to hold itself up as a shining example of righteousness. Yet we have seen them lie, murder, cheat and steal in order to further their cause and mission.
Let us not forget the massive numbers of people murdered throughout history in the name of religion. Although it is not as apparent these days, it’s still going on in a much more subtle form.
According to statistics and numbers America is the most Christian nation on this planet. Yet we have the highest rates of violent crime, teen pregnancy, STDs and imprisonment of citizens.
I personally find this quite ironic since many Christians claim there is no morality without religion. One can simply look at the numbers and see this is another false claim.
To all parents I say, do you really want a person with homosexual tendencies to marry your child?
Long ago religion overstepped their authority. They have been corrupted by power. The power they feel due to the number of followers and believers. Instead of being true to their own convictions they themselves have become corrupt.
As has been said many times, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Much like our governments, religion started out with good intentions. As time passed their good intentions became corrupt. Instead of providing a stable foundation for people to firmly stand they now wish to provide, not only the foundation but the entire house. In other words, they want control.
Their intentions of assisting by the offer of a helping hand have become corrupt with a desire to control and dictate.
Throughout the history of mankind we have seen the ugly side of religion many times.
Throughout the history of mankind we have seen the ugly side of man as well.
In other words, religion is no different. Throughout history there are examples of religious lies, murder and corruption.
There is good and there is bad in everything and every person.
Nothing in our world is perfect.
Our world is a melting pot of differences.
Different color eyes, skin, hair, height, weight and sexuality. There was a day when left handedness was considered evil.
One can read through most religious books and see the demonization of women.
The Christian bible talks about women as less than men and is also an instruction guide to slavery.
Religion, like much of the world has lost it’s way.
As John Lennon sang “all you need is love”.
The foremost message of religion is love.
We are all one. One human family with many family members.
Most of us can not imagine killing someone we loved much less beheading them. I must wonder what teachings throughout this mans life made him feel he had the right to do so.
And don’t get on your high horse about this if you are Christian because I am sure there are examples of Christian marriages ending in divorce where one spouse killed the other.
I’d also be willing to bet the majority of the victims were women.
Such human atrocities are directly related to teachings that place one segment of society above another.
This provides us with a basis for the atrocities heaped upon the homosexual community.
Certain segments of society, primarily religion, have deemed homosexuality to be a lessor segment of society.
As a result we see atrocities committed against the homosexual community.
If you listen to the religious it would seem they make such claims as:
You are detestable but we love you.
You are an abomination but we love you.
You are not welcome in our church unless you repent your homosexuality but we love you.
And then some parishioner decides; “well if they aren’t going to repent we should kill them”.
Let me see now, the top ten list of religion (ie:the ten commandments) says though shall not kill but some religious nut thinks he should kill a homosexual because they won’t repent?
I knew a married man who was unfaithful to his wife. He told me “my religious believes tell me homosexuality is wrong”. I replied with “the last time I looked adultery was on the religious top ten list, not homosexuality”.
Even though he had his own, in my mind, more serious moral issues, he was more concerned with me rather than himself.
You see folks, this is more about personal biases and sexual insecurity than it is religion.
Religion is simply an excuse and it is, as far as I’m concerned, the ultimate hypocrisy.
Not a single one of us is perfect and since we are not perfect we have no business judging others.
For those of you who use the bible for condemnation I say to you, it is not meant for that purpose.
I also ask you to read the last few verses of your bible. In those verses you will see a warning to any “man” who adds to or takes away from the text.
Since many of you believe the bible is the word of “god” and “god” knows all and sees all I must ask, why did “god” put that warning in the end of the bible?
Surely he must know someone was going to change the text of the bible otherwise there would be no need for such a warning.
It’s very obvious folks, the bible has been altered and definitely contains “errors”.
So I suggest to you that you think long and hard before you use the bible to condemn others because you have no way of knowing if that part has been altered!
I further suggest, you risk your very own salvation by doing so!
I also suggest, you biblical folks do a little research on The Apocrypha. Here’s a hint: The Apocrypha refer to texts which were left out of officially sanctioned versions ('canon') of the Bible.
OH, you didn’t know there were texts that were left out? Well now you do.
In closing I simply wish to say if a round peg won’t fit in a square hole does that mean the round peg is doomed? I suggest we love the square peg and round peg equally!
